How much does chimney cleaning cost in Illinois?

October 18, 2026 · 3 min read · Chimney Sweep Master, Cary, IL

Our standard single-flue open fireplace cleaning and inspection is $290. Here is what that means—and why not every chimney appointment has the same scope.

The useful answer is not a statewide average pulled from a price chart. It is a clear price for the fireplace you own and a clear explanation of what the visit includes. At Chimney Sweep Master, cleaning and inspection for a standard single-flue open fireplace is $290. That price does not have an expiration date.

What the $290 cleaning and inspection covers

Cleaning removes the soot and creosote that ordinary sweeping can loosen. Inspection and cleaning go together when those deposits hide the flue walls. Once the cleaning is complete, we can visually inspect accessible components for imperfections, including the firebox, damper and chimney components. A visual check is not a guarantee that every concealed condition can be seen.

Our earlier article, How is my chimney cleaned?, explains the bottom-up rotary-brush approach. We protect the area around the fireplace and collect debris as we work. The method and equipment must suit the fireplace and any manufacturer instructions, especially with a factory-built metal system.

When the price needs a separate conversation

The standard price is for one flue serving an open fireplace. Additional flues are quoted separately. A wood stove, insert, unusual access requirement or different appliance should not be assumed to fit that same offer. Tell us what the chimney serves and send an accessible photo when you request the visit.

Repairs are separate from cleaning. After the cleaning and visual inspection, if we find something that needs repair, we quote it afterward, either as a written quote or a verbal quote. A replacement cap, damper, liner or masonry repair is not automatically included in the cleaning price. Ask what the proposed repair addresses before deciding.

Compare the scope, not just the headline number

When comparing appointments, ask whether the price includes inspection, how many flues it covers and what happens if deposits cannot be removed by routine brushing. Hard glazed creosote can need a different treatment. A technician should explain that condition rather than promise that every chimney becomes ready to burn after the same basic sweep.

Also explain any recent chimney fire, appliance change or property transfer. Those circumstances can change the inspection scope. If you smell gas, have a carbon monoxide alarm or suspect an active chimney fire, address the emergency first; a routine booking is not the right response.

Our $290 cleaning and inspection offer lists the standard fireplace scope. Share your appliance type and concerns with your request so we can discuss the appropriate visit without assuming that every system is identical.
